Talking Walls

a project with blackhole-factory (Martin Slawig, Elke Utermöhlen, Martin Kroll) & José Seoane

Questioning the perception of public spaces, calling the viewers’ attention to the non-public, the „behind-the walls“, asking for a heightened awareness of how we see and perceive the domain of daily life, is at the core of the project.

Buildings tell stories. When dusk sets in everything transforms into a dream machine that merges surreal imagery with an audio collage of historical facts and stories of people connected to the buildings. Images slowly emerge from the walls; voices talking about the buildings mix with city sounds, step forward and develop further into abstract musical compositions.

As it gets darker the projections become dominant and for a while the surroundings change face; the rich layering of image and sound bringing forth surprising new points of departures.

Transparency of materiality leads to displacement of perspective, the viewers’ attention being drawn to details that rarely become visible in daily life.
